Dan has been involved with Romanian
fencing for over 20 years. As an athlete for
our team he is always been highly dedicated and very
professional. Years later he did a great working
with one of our junior teams with a sport
conditioning program. The junior team
advanced to the finals in their division.
One of the research projects Dan has
been involved with has contributed to the success
of our Olympic Team in Barcelona 1992 and
also in Atlanta 1996.E

A sport conditioning program should focus on individual
differences
Take a
walk down on
Robson Street
on a Saturday afternoon and you will see that there is
considerable variability! People are coming in all shapes
and sizes. It shouldn't be too surprising that there is also
a lot of variability in our internal characteristics.
Heart
size, muscle mass, bone diameter, fiber type composition,
position of muscle attachments on bone, fat distribution
pattern, joint flexibility, etc., all vary from individual
to individual.
Studies show that besides genetic differences we also have a
different responses to a similar sport conditioning
programs.
You may
copy a sport conditioning training program from your
best friend or from your favorite player, but if you are not
considering individual differences this is destined to be,
at best an approximation of what will work best for you,
and at worst, a total failure.
Your sport conditioning training program will reflect the
specificity of your sport or your position on the field as
well.
This means in plain English that if you want to be a
successful pro skier then you need (for the most part) to
train on the slope. If you are a swimmer, well then be ready
to spend a lot of time at the pool.
When we I design a sport conditioning program for a
skier, for example, we choose in the weight room
exercises highly relevant for the specificity of that
sport: in this example core strength, joint
stabilization, muscular reactivity, and balance are top
priorities. A swimmers sport conditioning program
has of course different priorities.
A sport conditioning program for a soccer or
basketball player even if we include same components
(core strength, joint stabilization, etc. alike the skier in
my former example), it should be as similar with the first
program as ski is similar to basketball!
The bottom line is an exercise
should be part of your sport conditioning program
because it is relevant for your sport, not because
it looks coolE Any exercise can be adapted to your own
physical/technical characteristics so you can benefit
the most.
| Be
sure you train with someone who understands the
demands of your sport and your
individual characteristics, not just
"Google" a bunch of exercises.

Considering overloud principle for the optimal vancouver sport
conditioning training program
With vancouver sport conditioning program, we choose
specific intensity and duration of effort. Then we repeat
these efforts with some specific frequency. The adaptations
we are trying to stimulate require synthesis of new
biological material. If the stress is too small in either
intensity or duration, little or no adaptation growth is
stimulated. On the other hand, if the stress is too severe,
"growth" is delayed or even prevented.
Periodization of sport specific training
In the opinion of many word class athletes and
coaches emerging from the fact that the better adapted
we are to exercise the more difficult it is to induce
further positive changes, is the use of the periodization
training principle.
Applying this principle for your vancouver sport conditioning
program will help you with the other difficult
challenge: performance at your best when it matters most.
This means that your sport conditioning program
will need to change in order to help you peak for the most
important competition (s) of the season.
At the
elite level, where majority of athletes are so close to
their physical peak, proper diet and mental
preparation are two major assets of your
vancouver sport
conditioning program.
Just listen to
the words of one of our clients.
